All Central Universities to hoist 207-feet national flag: HRD Ministry
New Delhi: In a bid to counter the anti-national brouhaha resounding over the JNU crackdown, the HRD Ministry on Thursday instructed all Central Universities to fly a 207-feet high national flag inside their premises.
The Human Resource Ministry issued this diktat after the vice-chancellor conference, which was attended by vice-challengers of 46 central universities, and chaired by Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani.
“All central universities are to fly national flag on a 207 feet high mast on their campuses to signify ‘strong and united’ India,” said the HRD Ministry in a statement, adding that the flag should weigh 135 kilograms; these characteristics are strikingly similar to the flag placed at Connaught Palace in central Delhi.
According to media reports, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will be the inaugural institution to unfurl the tricolour at its premise.
