New Delhi, April 17: After Razer phone and Xiaomi's Black Shark, we are about to get another gaming smartphone soon. Taiwanese PC maker Asus has confirmed that it is working on a gaming smartphone that may launch this year.
ASUS Global CEO Jerry Shen recently confirmed the reports while giving an interview to Astig.ph and said that phone can be "expected" in the coming days. Rumours of the gaming smartphone had been doing the rounds since long, some expected the phone to launched at MWC 2018 The company has not revealed the name nor any timeline for its launch but have confirmed a gaming phone is in works.
ASUS launched three devices in the new ZenFone 5 series at the ongoing "Mobile World Congress" (MWC), 2018.
ZenFone 5Z and ZenFone 5 are the first-ever models to have Artificial Intelligence (AI) and feature "all-screen" displays with a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. The new line-up also includes ZenFone 5 Lite.
"We embarked on the ZenFone project four years ago with the idea to create empowering luxury for everyone to enjoy," Jerry Shen, CEO, ASUS, said in a statement.
The price of ZenFone 5Z starts at 479 euros and the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform with Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE) and features up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard stoarge.
ZenFone 5 has a dual-camera system and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 636 mobile platform.
ZenFone 5Z and ZenFone 5 come with dual-camera systems that adapt and learn, the company claimed.
Asus also sells gaming laptops and PCs under its ROG (Republic of Gamers) and Strix brand name and we can expect the gaming phone to get the similar branding. This will be company's very first gaming phone -- a handheld portable ROG gaming device. The company's experience in the gaming industry is apparent so we can expect the upcoming gaming smartphone to give a tough competition to the other two.
Xiaomi Black Shark specifications
The Xiaomi Black Shark features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with Adreno 630 GPU paired with 6GB RAM/ 64GB inbuilt storage variant or 8GB+128GB variant. The smartphone sports a dual camera setup at the back with a 20-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel sensor with LED flash. For better selfies, the Black Shark has a 20-megapixel front camera.
The Xiaomi Black Shark phone comes with Quick Charge 3.0 support and backed by a 4000mAh battery.
Before the launch of Black Shark, the company also announced a controller dock for the gaming smartphone. This controller will come with a joystick and a trigger button that can be connected to the handset. Priced at CNY 179 which roughly calculates Rs. 1,900.
