India 62/1 in response to England’s 400
Mumbai, Dec 9: India posted 62/1 in their first innings inreply to England’s 400 at tea on the second day of the fourth cricketTest match here on Friday.
Opener Murali Vijay was unbeaten on31 along with Cheteshwar Pujara (7 batting) at the WankhedeStadium.
Murali’s opening partner K.L. Rahul was out for 24,bowled by Moeen Ali (1-22).
Earlier, England were bowled outfor 400 runs in their first innings after lunch. A resilient JosButtler (76) guided them to the mark in the second session.
Buttlerwas given company by Jake Ball (31). They put on 54 runs for theninth wicket.
Resuming at their overnight score of 288/5,Buttler struck the crucial half century to pull England towards adecent first innings score. He was unbeaten on 64, accompanied byJake Ball (29 batting) at lunch.
India’s premier spinnerRavichandran Ashwin (6-112) picked up his 23rd five-wicket haul inTests, His spin partner Ravindra Jadeja (4-109) snared the remainingwickets.
England added 97 runs in 31 overs in the openingsession of play, losing three wickets.
India picked up threewickets in the first phase of the day, shared by spinnersRavichandran Ashwin, who picked one and Ravindra Jadeja, who got theother two.
Ashwin provided India with the day’s firstbreakthrough early, dismissing Ben Stokes (31) who was caught byVirat Kohli at slip.
