Indian becomes first woman to get sea bravery award
New Delhi: An Indian woman has done it again. Captain Radhika Menon has been awarded top bravery award by the UN-body International Maritime Organisation (IMO). She is the first woman to get IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea.
Menon , master of an oil tanker, had led the rescue of seven fishermen in the Bay of Bengal. The power boat of the fishermen had lost power following engine failure and was sinking in strong winds and 27-feet high waves. The fishermen, before they were rescued , were surviving on ice used for storage purpose as the food had been washed away in bad weather. (News24Bureau)
