Kanpur derailment tragedy: Railways successfully lays down new tracks to restore traffic
Kanpur: A day after the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express, repair work of the Kanpur-Jhansi route was started, with authorities expected it to be over after Monday midnight and that trains will be allowed on the section from Tuesday morning.
A team of railway engineers and technicians have worked to repair the track. Also, the electrical engineering team have fixed the overhead electricity wires. All this work was carried out at a very fast pace and was under the supervision of top railways officials.
After the railway laid down new tracks, the traffic has been restored on the same route.
Four trains were cancelled and 14 diverted after 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed in the wee hours on Sunday due to suspected rail fracture, disrupting traffic on the route.
After the accident, NCR General Manager Arun Srivastava had said traffic on Kanpur-Jhansi section will be opened in 36 hours.
