The ineteresting part is that Shanaz Khan will succeed her grandfather as Sarpanch. She comes from a family with strong political roots. Her father is village head while mother is a former MLA. Her grandfather has been Sarpanch for 55 years.
“I am happy that I have got the opportunity to serve my people. My priorities will be the education of girls and sanitation. I want to set an example for girls on how education can help in so many ways,” she was quoted as saying. She hopes that her election will inspire parents to educate and encourage girls.
Shanaz decided to contest election after the Panchayat elections were cancelled in October last year after her grandfather was accused of submitting fake documents for elections.
