Salt sold at Rs 700/kg in Mumbai… Police asks mosques to pacify people

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has asked  Mumbaikars not to fall for the salt shortage rumours. The move followed the news that salt prices have skyrocketed to  Rs 700 per kg in certain areas of Mumbai.

Mumbai Police also ensured that announcements were made from the mosques in Govandi  area saying that there was no truth in salt shortage news being spread by some people. Certain shops in the area had sold salt at Rs 700 per kg after people thronged the shops believing the rumour. Some shops in the area were broken by the mob.

The rumour emanated from Uttar Pradesh. (News24Bureau)
