White House lock downed after loud bang
Washington: Secret Services here lock downed White House on Saturday after a loud noise was heard on the South Lawn moments before President Barack Obama and his family were due to take off by helicopter.
According to reports , the lockdown started around 10:15 a.m., when President Obama and his family were in the White House and were preparing to leave for Selma to commemorate the 50th anniversary of a civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
The lockdown affected people as it forced the closing of several roads,
Following the incident, Secret Service officers here cordoned off Lafayette Square across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House using barricades and police tape to divert pedestrians and other visitors. Officers also stopped bystanders from crossing several other nearby streets.
Reports claim that “Lockdown continues, although it doesn’t appear as though there’s a high level of consternation among Secret Service walking outside.”
